Magic Hat Lucky Kat IPA

Lucky Hat IPA

I am one of the few people (i’m aware of) who find Magic Hat to be rediculously over-hyped.  But, I promise to be impartial in this review of their Lucky Kat IPA.  Anyways, I’m game to try any IPA at least once, plus this has a kick ass label.  However, i don’t have much else good to say about this beer.  The aroma is basically the same as Magic Hat #9, with slightly fruity and spicy-hops characteristics.  The taste is straight-up lager, which pisses me off to no end.  Why brew an IPA that tastes like a damn lager?  This beer has that same slightly funky, very bready flavor that i associate with lagers, and it doesn’t leave your palate.  There’s a minimal aftertaste of piney hops that lingers, but is mostly masked by the aforementioned lager taste (which haunts me like bad Indian food).  I’d say this beer’s closest relative would be one of the LAGERS from Coney Island Brewing.  I’d pair this with a day of yard-work or a bad hangover.
