Weyerbacher Insanity

I have been on a recent kick for oak-aged beers–other favorites include Great Divide’s Wood Aged Double IPA and Dogfish Head’s Burton Baton. Weyerbacher’s Insanity is made by aging their Blithering Idiot Barleywine in oak bourbon casks, producing an ale with 11.1% abv. It pours a deep amber color and smells of alcohol and tropical fruit. The taste is slightly bitter/tart at first, with lively mild carbonation through a syrupy-sweet body. The alcohol evaporates quickly leaving an aftertaste of pineapple, vanilla, and citrus. Overall, the taste is exquisite and strong, and would pair well with any cheese.
Cheers!
