Lion Stout
My buddy went to Africa recently and mentioned this beer upon his return: of course, I was intrigued. I kept seeing this and finally gave it a shot. The aroma is a mix of leather and Lo Mein. The first taste is bitter and funky with coffee and leather. The carbonation is mild as is the alcohol–surprising for an 8% abv stout. This is an enjoyable stout with some extra strength dark malt, but not overly bitter. There is mild pine hop aroma and a slight hoppy aftertaste. Overall this is a medium bodied stout with some kick, but without a very unique character.
I’d recommend this for those looking for a dry double stout that isn’t over the top. It definitely has some interesting flavors, which might pair well with some Jamaican curry dishes. This is a very dry stout which, like a lion, has a bold character and probably doesn’t fit with very many dishes. This is definitely worth a try for stout fanatics though.
