Session is in: Pike IPA
As Evan said in his review of the Scotch Ale by Pike, I noticed these beers hitting the store this weekend as well and couldn’t pass up the price. I too was glad to take advantage of this new beer in town, the Pike IPA did not disappoint.
A great hazy orange beer, the hops flavor is definitely wearing the pants in this family. True the beer is only 60 IBUs and for those keeping score at home is more of a traditional English IPA as stated by the BJCP. So if you are a huge Hop Head then you are probably going to be disappointed. If you match the IBU and the relativly low 6.3% ABV and you get what I think is a great IPA session beer. Considering I killed the whole 1.6 Pint bottle during dinner and walked off to write this review should say something. God save the Queen indeed! Honestly the aroma of this one was honey-esque which I do not find typical of most IPAs. That didn’t do much to avoid the dry/bitter after taste this one left you to experience, which I tend to love.
You can get a few other IPAs that would make wonderful session beers, Stone Levitation is a great example, but if you are looking to try something new to the area then this is a great choice. As a matter of fact as I was doing my little beer run, there was a guy picking up some beers for the 4th of July. He picked up a couple of Pike’s and was ready to head on. I am quite sure his party was a good time with a fist full of Pike.

I had their “Heirloom Pale Ale” recently while I was investigating profiles for the Summertime Ale I am making….It was pretty good. Definately a beer I would buy again.
