Pike Tandem Double Ale

The Pike Brewery beers we’ve been trying lately have all gotten high marks.  This one has an interesting profile: an American Strong Ale brewed with a Belgian yeast strain.  The aroma has a slight touch of wheat and funk, and earthy, floral hops to spare.  The taste is bright and sweet, with a little tartness.  The carbonation is mellow and smooth, a difficult thing to achieve.  There’s some more wheat and floral flavors, some honey, and the minute funkiness returns in the aftertaste.

This is a confusing beer, as I was anticipating from the profile.  It’s like a half-saison, half-wheat beer.  This is definitely a curious beer, and it’s perfect for a summer day or some great Italian food.  I recommend this for adventurous Belgian-beer fans, or wheat beer fanatics.  This also has just a touch of funkiness for those looking to try out funky beers without getting too crazy.
